The Notre Dame Cathedral

The Notre Dame Cathedral was our second destination on our trek through Paris.  It was cool to have a bit of a francophile accompanying me on this trip, as this was one of the big sights that I missed on my first Parisian adventure.  It was pretty cool to get to see it.  Have a look.

There she is... Along with a double-decker tour bus. In retrospect, I bet my feet would've felt a lot better if we'd have gone that route...

Pretty.

In the land of pigeons, the man with a blue track-suit and a bag of stale bread is king.

Dude was earning tips by handing out his bread/pigeons...

This little guy was more than satisfied with merely chasing the pigeons around.

Being a 4-year-old was awesome. Look at how happy this little dude is... He doesn't even have an X-Box or nothing.

Zeus looks pissed.

Pretty big crowd too...

We were thinking about going in... Then we saw the line.

Kind of a big church, I guess.

A one man band. Now I can say that I've seen a dude dressed in a giraffe suit belting out Oasis...

Couple more street performers. Busking is big in Paris.

Sax player got into a friendly sword vs. saxophone fight with the little dude... It didn't end well...

Unfortunately, that's all for our abbreviated stop at the Notre Dame.

Come back tomorrow.  Ms. Müller leads us on a hunt for vegan falafel, and we venture onwards towards the Pantheon…  Apparently, Paris has one of those too…

On to Notre Dame

From The Louvre, we ventured onward towards the Notre Dame Cathedral.  We strolled about a mile up the Siene towards our destination.  I don’t know too many places where in about a mile one can walk past not one, but two different photo shoots, a ‘no-pissing’ sign, a bunch of couples making out, a police barge and some hardcore riot-cop vans, several outdoor bookstores, and a statue or four….  But, apparently Paris fits that bill…  Have a look.

I guess the traffic isn't that bad... There's more of those Parisian racing stripes.

I think this was like a post-wedding wedding picture shoot? Or something? Personally I think her windbreaker completes the ensemble nicely...

That's a big ass police boat... I guess I'll cancel that Mona Lisa heist I was planning...

I hate to break it to you Paris, but Ze Germans have a way better lock bridge... Pretty though...

Legit place to go for a stroll...

The second photo shoot we walked past... From the looks of it, this one was considerably more professional than the first...

Damnit, I had to pee too...

Awfully glad I wasn't here in 1910. Musta been one helluva flood.

Kissing people... There was a lot of this going around...

Little book stand by the river. Dude sold quite an eclectic collection. Old books, and magazines from as far back as the '50's... Of course he was also selling the usual Eiffel Tower trinkets... Interesting.

Cool statue, whatever it is...

Oh shit, the fuzz. I guess they were afraid of that little demonstration we saw earlier, because there was a pretty intense police presence all over the city... In their defense, the Parisians do know how to riot...

Couldn't have been easy to get up there.

And here we are...

And now that I’m sure you’re waiting with bated breath, we’ll have a look at the Notre Dame itself on the morrow…

Let’s Take a Walk Through Paris

What a week.  What an amazing week.

So I finished with the burning trash heap job last Tuesday, and spent a few days hanging out with my favorite German bartender, Lotta.  After a couple of quiet nights in quiet Bergheim, Germany we embarked on yet another impromptu and poorly-planned  European road trip.

Turns out Paris is but a few hour drive from Bergheim, and turns out Lotta, despite that fact, had never been there.  So we packed up the little rental car and headed out for two amazing Parisian days and nights.  The first night I left the camera in the room.  Tough, but I sometimes forget to stop taking pictures of shit so I can actually take the time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city, and my company, first hand.

With an amazing trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower under our belts (I got to be a tourist, that’s pretty sweet), the second day was a different story.  We headed out just after lunch time, and walked the streets of Paris for damn near 12 hours.

Turns out, Lotta is also a bit of a French history nerd.  That, coupled with the fact that she’s incredibly adept at navigating large European cities (at least a lot more adept than this small-town Colorado boy) made the experience that much better.  We weaved our way through the city and saw every sight that it’s possible to see in a day…  Some once-in-a-lifetime shit right there.

20 miles and about 1800 pictures later, I made this.  I hope you enjoy it, and I just bet that your feet won’t even get sore…

Thanks for watching.
