Fields of Rape…seed

As I’ve been doing my whole homeless, nomadic, small-town-in-the-boonies thing in northern Europe over the past couple years, I’ve spent more than my fair share of time driving through the agrarian countrysides of England and Germany.  And every spring and summer, entire fields of these yellow flowers start popping up.  Like, everywhere.  So I poked around on the internet, and turns out these yellow flowers are called rapeseed.  Yes.  Rapeseed.

Honestly.  I can prove it.

Apparently it’s used to make what we generally call canola oil, and it’s quite the cash crop in the area.  During a recent stint in the U.K., my Best Western du jour was just down the road from a rapeseed field.  And, in an astonishing development for the midlands of England, the sun actually came out.  So, I took a walk around, and here’s what I found.  Have a look.  Ugly name, pretty stuff.

And just in case you were wondering, you are here:

Anywho…

So England does have that going for it.  Kinda pretty little area.

And now that you’ve seen the softer side of northern England, we’ll venture onwards to Prague.

London Calling – 2 Days Worth of London in 3 Minutes

Come little chilluns and gather round.  In just a shade over 3 minutes, you can spend a weekend in London and take your own little tour of the sights and sounds.  No $2,000 airfare, no sore feet, no customs, no pounds sterling, no jetlag, and no fucking fish and chips.  So come and take a walk with me, if you’d be so kind….

Hope you enjoyed it.

Let’s see here, we got some English countryside, a little Prague, and some Rocky Mountains coming before too long.

Don’t be a stranger.

London Calling – Big Ben and the Parliament Building

Well, pardon the interruption, but I’ve been too busy globetrotting the last few days to post about, well… globetrotting.  Now I’m back in Colorado for the time being, and I’ll show you around here before too long.

But first, the next and final installment from London; the stroll along the Thames comes to it’s conclusion.  It was a pretty day wandering about the city, but unfortunately the Underground doesn’t run all night, and neither do camera batteries.  So I wandered my way from the London Bridge towards Big Ben to catch my ride home.  Have a look.

The London Eye. One big-ass ferris wheel. Would have loved to take a ride, but it costs a fortune.

And there’s Big Ben

Weird, that building was red last picture…

And there’s the Parliament building, just behind that there bus.

And more Big Ben. Not as big as the name would indicate, but still iconic as hell.

Like this one. Old man waiting for something just outside an Underground station.

“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”

Strolling across a pedestrian bridge to catch the last train back to my hotel…

That wraps up the pictures from London.  We’ll see some pictures from the English countryside before too long.  And then it’s of it’s Prague.

Don’t be a stranger.
