Off to the Desert

Here I sit, yet again, at the Mesa Verde lounge at good ol’ Denver International Airport.  Today I have the pleasure of catching a short little flight to Albuquerque, New Mexico.  From there I’ll head about 4 hours west to beautiful Holbrook, AZ.  I’ll work there Tuesday and Wednesday, and then head 2 hours back the way I came to Grants, NM for a couple more days of work before heading home Friday or Saturday.

Here's the route I'll be taking through the high desert... Fly into 'A', drive to 'B', drive back to 'C' on my way back to 'A'. Got that?

While it might not look that exciting, hell it won’t be very exciting, I’m looking forward to it.  When I was really young I actually lived in Grants while my old man worked at the same power plant that I’ll be working at, so I know a few little places in the area that are substantially prettier than my cubicle.  I’ll get paid to do a fair amount of travel, and should only have to work 3 or 4 days… Not bad as far as these trips go.  I’m by myself this trip, so it’ll be a bit lonely…  But, to accentuate the positive, the free meals will be nice, and I might get some overtime in there too.

I’m still sort of amazed that I was standing on top of the Eiffel Tower less than a month ago, and tonight I’ll be checking in to the Econolodge, the armadillo of the Choice Hotel food chain, in a town of less than 5,000 people in the middle of nowhere in Arizona.  It’s an interesting life I lead, I’ve got that going for me.  And I have a lot to be thankful for, even if it’s far, far away right now.

So here’s to free drinks and getting sent off the beaten path.  I’ll take plenty of pictures, and keep you posted.
