A Walk to the Louvre

A couple of weeks ago, for the first time ever, I actually took some time off work to actually, like, not work while I was in Europe.  While it might seem strange that I’ve never done that before, it’s less enticing than it sounds.  Usually after spending a couple of weeks alone, or close to it, busting my ass in a foreign country, the idea of doing just about anything other than coming home is less than appealing.

But, this trip was a little different…  I had someone to visit that took care of both the lonely issue, and that whole I’m-an-ignorant-American-who-doesn’t-speak-your-language-for-shit-so-I’m-just-going-to-talk-slower-and-hope-that-you-understand-me utter lack of legitimate communication thing.

And, with those two rather considerable obstacles removed, I was but a few hundred bucks away from enjoying a week of being an actual tourist in Europe…  So, I pulled the trigger.  Miss Lotta Müller and I hopped in the cheap rental car (an Audi A3, thanks for having higher automotive standards than we do, Germany) and headed off to Paris.  We spent two nights in a pretty nice, and delightfully free hotel room a few kilometers from the Seine (thanks Choice Hotel Rewards points).

The first night, we took care of the required trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower, sipped some overpriced champagne, and spent a few hours wandering aimlessly about the city.  The next morning we woke up and headed out on a mission to see as much as we could of what the city has to offer.  Camera in hand, our first destination was The Louvre.  But first we had to make the 2 mile walk to get there….

As per usual, I can show you what I saw, but I can’t really tell you much about it…

Just across from the hotel... Some random, gorgeous buildings.

Those are either the gayest motorcycles or the most bad-ass scooters I've ever seen.

You can add truck driver in Paris to the list of worst jobs ever... Traffic there is insane, I felt bad for this dude...

See what I mean? These Parisian racing stripes were on every vehicle around. Driving there was terrifying.

That right there is a dude wearing Ugz. I guess I have some catching up to do when it comes to fashion.

And the Opera.

This dude must be famous or something.

How Parisian.

We're getting closer... And watch out for that biker gang.

So this was kind of strange. Apparently, there was a pretty big protest of some sort going on while we were there... I guess working 35 hours a week is just too much...

And here we are with all the friendly socialists... The Louvre.

Kind of a dick move to stop right here isn’t it?  Well, I’ve been accused of worse, and fret not, pictures of the Louvre itself will be coming shortly….
