On Monday, I took off for my third trip to Indiana, PA. I fly into Pittsburgh to get here, and while Indiana doesn’t have a whole lot going on, other than the Jimmy Stewart museum of course, on each of my previous trips out here I noticed that Pittsburgh was a surprisingly pretty place. So even though I’m totally ambivalent towards “Rear Window,” I decided to defer Indiana and pass on the museum to take one of my three hour tours instead.
My plane got in around 3:00. I punched some random downtown parking garage into my GPS, popped in my earbuds and turned on my audiobook (cause I’m a baller like that) and by 4:30 I was wandering aimlessly about the Steel City. Luckily, a friend of mine is dating a girl from Pittsburgh, and she was kind enough to give me a pointer or two, so I wasn’t flying completely blind.
After a few hours of strolling around, and a pretty descent dinner by the Monongahela River (the Mon, if you’re not an out of towner), I rode the Mon Incline up to the top of Mount Washington to take in the rather breathtaking view of the skyline…
Anywho, for the next few days, I’ll be taking you along on my little stroll. Have a look…
- It’s kinda cool… Pre-tunnel is nothing.
- Post tunnel is the city…
- I like the bridges. Lots of old steel bridges, appropriately enough.
- You can see that castley building from pretty much all over town.
- Cool-lookin’ old building.
- The more you know…
- The Monongahela River. One of three they apparently have around here.
- Not a bad skyline either.
- Wow. I feel welcome here. I totally didn’t until I read that sign.
- Heading out to Point State Park… Right at the intersection of the 3 rivers.
- So proud of this… It might not be the best picture ever, but at least I caught the airplane right in the middle of the castley skyscraper.
- Well…. I suppose they call it the steel city for a reason.
- PNC Park, the home of the Pirates is hanging out under that bridge.
- And a touch stage left, we have Heinz Field, home of the Steelers.
- Pretty place.
- Man, screw you guys. I guess I cant get to park. Pisses me off, the old fountain would have done me just fine.
Even though that pesky construction kept me from the Point State Fountain, the rest of the city was certainly worth seeing. Come back tomorrow and check it out. It’s bed time.
