And I’m back. I’m back in the Rocky Mountains. After 7 weeks in overcast and rainy Germany, and 2 weeks in the hot and muggy south, I couldn’t be happier to be back in the sunshine and blue skies of Colorado. Accordingly, while I enjoy my heavily air-conditioned day off, I’ve decided to regale you with some pictures of summertime in the rockies.
Went searching through the absurd amount of pictures on my hard drive, and found these guys from 2007, just a few months before I took the job as the globetrotting power plant dude. That summer I took a road trip up to northern Wyoming for my grandfather’s memorial service. He and my grandmother spent a good portion of their retirement roaming around this area in their motorhome, and it was pretty easy to see why.
This tripped also marked the first time I took an actual interest in taking pictures. On my way up there, I stopped at the Wal-Mart in Rock Springs, Wyoming (ironically, and wholly unbeknownst to me, I’d be back in that town sooner rather than later for work) and bought a cheap Kodak point and shoot. After spending a week exploring the wilderness with that little camera, I realized I rather enjoyed it…
So, If you feel so compelled, come along, and check out these antiques…
- Aspens just outside the little lodge we had for the trip.
- They get some pretty impressive wind up here.
- The old ‘staring up the trees’ shot.
- The view from our lodge. Not too shabby
- Here we are at Newfork Lakes. Beautiful place.
- See?
- By the side of the road up to the lodge.
- After our weekend in hills, I decided to take the scenic route back towards Colorado. Union pass… A solid 50 mile dirt road through the mountains.
- “An unimproved dirt road crosses the pass, connecting U.S. Route 287 near Dubois to U.S. Route 189 in Pinedale.” – thanks Wikipedia
That’s all for today. Come back tomorrow for the rest of Union Pass…
